If you are importing custom advertising tents, two questions almost always come first: "Can they keep the rain out?" and "Are they safe around flames?"
Both matter more than you might think — one determines whether your tent survives a rainy outdoor event, the other whether it passes local safety checks and protects people and property.
Here is what export buyers need to know.
Waterproof: it is about material and construction
A truly waterproof tent starts with the fabric.
The most common options for advertising tents are PVC-coated polyester, Oxford fabric with a PU coating, and heavy-duty PVC tarpaulin.

All three can be made fully waterproof, but the level of protection differs.
For one-off promotional events, a PU-coated Oxford canopy with taped or welded seams is usually enough.
For long-term outdoor use — say, a permanent stall or repeated multi-day shows — a 500–650 GSM PVC canopy offers far better resistance to heavy rain, strong wind and daily sun exposure.
Construction matters just as much as material.
A tent is only as waterproof as its weakest point: the seams, the zippers and the top joints.
Reputable manufacturers seal or weld the seams and add rain flaps so water cannot pool or seep through.

Fireproof: look for flame-retardant fabrics and certificates
For fire resistance, what you need is flame-retardant (FR) treated fabric.
FR PVC or FR polyester is treated so that it does not easily catch fire and will self-extinguish once the flame source is removed.
This is not the same as "non-flammable" — under extreme conditions any material can burn — but FR fabric gives you a safe, compliant product for events where cooking, lighting or heat sources are nearby.
More importantly, fire safety is about compliance.
Different markets require different standards: in the United States, buyers often ask for NFPA 701 or CPAI-84; in Europe, EN 13501-1 (B-s1,d0) or the M2 classification in France.
A reliable supplier should be able to provide the relevant test reports or certificates.
If your market requires them, ask for the certificate before ordering — do not assume it is included.
Waterproof and fireproof at the same time?
Yes, it is possible to have both.
FR-coated PVC combines weather resistance with flame-retardant performance, so your tent can stand up to rain and still pass a fire-safety inspection.
The trade-off is usually cost and a slightly heavier canopy. If your budget allows, this "all-in-one" option is the safest choice for export buyers who want a single product that works across events and markets.
What about custom printing and quality control?
Waterproof and fireproof are baseline requirements; what sets a product apart is the finishing.
Full-color printing can be applied to the canopy so your logo and artwork stay vibrant even in direct sunlight.
Reinforced corners, double-stitched hems and a strong powder-coated steel or aluminum frame add durability that pays off over hundreds of setups and take-downs.
Before committing to a large order, ask for samples and test reports, confirm the printing method and lead time, and check the warranty terms.
A few minutes of verification at the beginning can save you from expensive returns later.
